I actually had a sore tooth, a tooth that needed to be taken care of right here. And I had over the last 10 years had two or three teeth removed all down in Texas, all by different people because of one reason or another. And so I had a tooth that over a weekend that just was driving me crazy and I just found someone, actually I didn’t research or anything, I just found somebody who could bring me in and do something about my tooth. And so I came in here and Dr. Lopez, they did their, whatever they do. I don’t even know what all they did, but they did quite a lot. And he came in and he talked to me and I am, at the time I think I was 61 years old, 62, and he told me that he could fix or get rid of the tooth that I had problems with, but by the time I’m 70 I wouldn’t have enough teeth left to be eating. And that kind of caught me by shock and he said, well you’re getting ready to retire, get you a check box, I can fix your teeth, your teeth will be fixed and you’re good for life with it. And that sounded pretty good to me. So in a matter of a few weeks they had pulled all of my teeth and started replacing them and then the process had started. The functional part of it is what I was looking forward to when I made the decision to do it. And the functional part, you know, it’s better than I guess it’s been since I was a little kid. The things that I see is that I can eat ice cream with my teeth. I used to get cold and hurt and I couldn’t even eat ice cream. I can eat beef jerky, I couldn’t eat beef jerky and haven’t done that in 50 years or 40 years. The visual, does it look better, do I feel better about it? Well yeah, I do, but I didn’t really plan that or think that or perceive that that would be the end result. That’s just what happened. And in fact it’s taken me a long time even to learn that I can smile. But that’s pretty cool that I can do that.

Lloyd: I had some health issues that required medication, and the medication that I was taking really impacted my teeth. And over time, they just got worse and worse and worse. And Dr. Lopez, you know, tried to patch things up, you know, the best he could to the point where it got to, “Hey, you’re going to have to get rid of your teeth. They’re hurting your health.”
He took me through the process of what would happen with implants, and what he thought the best course of action would be. And so we started, or he started, with the upper, and what he told us was that that’s one of the harder processes is the upper teeth there because they’re close to the sinuses and all that. Started off with the top, got the implants up there, and then did the bottoms not long after that and got the implants there.
And then part of the process is to give me some teeth, something that I can use. And one of the things that they explained prior to even starting the implant was that it takes time. And the implants have to heal, the bone has to mend around the implant. And that does take time. I know people who have gotten dentures and, you know, it’s a question sometimes of just finances because it’s very expensive to do the implants.
But the people that I know that have the dentures, they’re never quite satisfied with those. They’re, you know, sometimes ill-fitting, you’ve got to use this blue stuff. And with the implants, you don’t need any of that. I’m just happy with it, and I get a lot of compliments, even with these temporary ones. If you would have seen my teeth before, you would understand why I get compliments because they were bad. But I’m real happy with it.
Karen: Before I got the All-on-4s, I had a partial. I’d gone to a dentist before and they did a lot of work on my bottom teeth, and even my upper teeth. And so there were five teeth that they could not save. So I had a partial and, of course, anybody that’s ever had a partial knows that that is a pain in the butt.
But then all of a sudden, I had a tooth right in the very front that broke. And nobody wants to have this tooth break. You know, you smile and you’re like, hey. And everybody’s like, “What happened to your tooth?” And then I had like three teeth that just started breaking. I came here, I was not really sure about what I wanted to do, and we talked about the different options.
And at one point, I was not gonna go with the All-on-4s as far as like permanent. I was gonna get the kind that you could just snap out and put back in. Dr. Lopez and I talked, and I decided, “Okay, I’ll do the All-on-4.” And there was a time, I am not gonna lie, I have an autoimmune disorder, so I don’t heal as fast as the normal person.
And so it took some time, longer than we had originally anticipated. And there were times when I was telling them, “I don’t think I can do this. I don’t think I need permanent All-on-4s. I think I’m gonna have to go with just the kind that…you know, because I just can’t handle that. I don’t think I’m gonna like it. I wanna be able to take my teeth out.”
But I know me too. And I know that if I have teeth that I can take out, I’m gonna keep them out too much. And that’s not good for your bone structure. It’s not good for your greater mouth. I ended up getting the All-on-4s and now that I have them, I love it. I mean, you know, I definitely am faithful to use a Waterpik because you have to do that when you have All-on-4s.
And I made sure that I got the kind that has the dental thing so that way it hooks over so I can get in back in a bit. I mean, it’s just it’s so nice to have people say, “Your teeth are beautiful.” And you know and you can just go, “Thank you.” And to know that they’re beautiful because they did a quality job, and because they cared enough to do the very best.
They do quality work. I mean, I spent a lot of money at a different place. And I thought my teeth were good. And I had had really bad teeth because I had been given tetracycline as a child. So my baby teeth were like gray, like a charcoal. And my adult teeth were not healthy. And they told me that that would happen. And I kept on putting it off. But I finally went and got some work done. And imagine my shock when I’m at work. And one of my teeth breaks off at the bone. Number one, that’s very, very painful. I never knew how painful that could be. But it’s like you don’t want it touched. And it was right in the front. And then I had another tooth that just sheared off down to my gum. And it was like diagonal. It just broke off. Dr. Lopez has recemented crowns that somebody else did because I’ve had like four or five crowns that have had to be redone. And then, of course, my whole bottom had to be redone. And they do a quality job. And Dr. Lopez is real big on quality. And he’s real big on making sure that his patients are taken care of and that you’re getting what you want.
I’ve always had terrible teeth. I wasn’t blessed with very good teeth and I had trouble with cavities and root canals and all these other kind of things. Over the years my teeth stained due to coffee and Coke drinking. So I wanted to reverse all those problems and I elected to do some restoration work on my mouth. He went over all the things that I could and could not do that I would be a candidate for and we elected to go with the veneers. They’re just very patient and they accommodate your needs, and they check on you and they ask if there’s anything they can do for you. A lot of times that’s the first thing people look at is your smile and it really sets the tone for your meetings and your interactions with other people. Before I didn’t really like to show my teeth and smile open mouthed. Now they’re more straighter. I don’t have some of the issues that I had before and I want to show them to everybody.
If you could have seen what my teeth looked like before, I was so embarrassed. To even, I mean my smile was. I’m never, my husband, “Baby, you have a beautiful smile,” and I’m like, but I have teeth that have no enamel on them, you know, so when they don’t have enamel, they just look black. And you know, I was embarrassed because my teeth were just, they were horrible. And now when I take pictures, I’m like, you know. And I don’t feel like I have to cover my mouth whenever I talk, because that was another thing that I would do before whenever I would talk to people, I would cover my mouth. I always kept my hands around my mouth, because it’s embarrassing. And you know, I know people that go through this, and it is so hard. So once you get your teeth fixed, it’s like, you can smile, and you’re not embarrassed about how bad your teeth look, you’re not thinking, oh no. You know, it’s just, I don’t know, it’s like, you feel free. I just, it’s a really liberating experience to be able to, you know, talk to people and not feel like you need to hide behind your mouth or, you know, or, you know, and take pictures with your family. And you can actually smile like you’re really happy and you’re enjoying being there and you’re not ashamed to smile.
So I mean, to me, it’s helped me with self confidence. And it’s just, it makes me feel better about myself. And it’s also a lot better because I can eat and I don’t have to worry about my teeth breaking or chipping or anything like that, because I know that Dr. Lopez does quality work. And so I don’t have to worry about my tooth breaking off at the, you know, at the bone or a crown falling out. Anything that he’s ever done, I’ve never had to come back and have redone. It’s just, it’s really great. It’s nice to be able to finally smile. And I waited a long time to be able to do this and not feel like I needed to hide.
He was really great because like I said, I did not heal as fast as we had hoped that I would. And that’s just my body. You know, some people heal faster than others. And so it was a process and it did take quite some time. But through it all, if I ever had any questions, if I ever had any problems, I could come in. Dr. Lopez would talk to me. He would explain what’s going on. He would help me when I got frustrated. And I was like, I don’t know if I can do this. I’m not sure this is the right way. You know, they were always there and he would be like, you know, this is what we’re going to have to do. These are the stats, you know, it’s going to get better. I promise, you know, he was always letting me know this one, the, you know, temporary that’s in your mouth now, it does feel bulky and it’s not comfortable. He said, “But I promise when you see your teeth, they’re not going to be like that.”
And this is no lie. And I’m not ashamed to admit it. The first time that I saw my teeth, they weren’t going to put them in yet. And Leslie goes, “Do you want to see your teeth?” And I was like, “Oh, can I?
And I actually held them and I thought they are beautiful. They are absolutely beautiful. And if it wasn’t for Dr. Lopez constantly reassuring me, answering my questions, my concerns, my fears, and being very patient with my fears and my concerns, I would not have made it through this process. So, I mean, he’s an awesome doctor and I just, I would not go anywhere else just because the relationship, when you find a doctor that you can really trust and that really cares about you as a person, that’s not something that you take lightly because that’s not something that you find just anywhere. That’s a special doctor and it’s wonderful to have them in a dentist.
We’ve been seeing Dr. Lopez and my family for almost 30 years now. And my daughter came here with an accident at school. She was on one of those merry-go-rounds, and she hit the metal post trying to get off of it and broke her front teeth. And Dr. Lopez was able to fix that very quickly. In fact, she went to school the next day and none of her teachers or anybody even knew she had an accident. And so ever since then, my whole family has come. My son, my daughter, my wife and I have been coming here. You know, Dr. Lopez has a fantastic disposition and he’s got a lot of humor too. And he makes you feel comfortable when they come here. And along with the staff, he’s got an excellent staff here too.
They’re just a joy to be around. And I like Dr. Lopez, because number one, he’s very down to earth. Number two, he just, he doesn’t talk down to anybody. And he’s so friendly and so open. And he, you know, he, well, it’s not he acts. He genuinely cares about his patients. And I’ve had my teeth worked on before, and I spent an exorbitant amount of money, and did not have, you know, the people were nice, but I didn’t develop friendships. They weren’t real friendly. They were not personable. They were just, you know, they wanted, they had their stuff to do, get in, get out, get it done. And Dr. Lopez doesn’t do that. He takes his time, he answers your questions. And whenever I was really nervous, because I was going through this, and mine was not an easy thing, because I don’t heal real fast. And I would be like, I don’t know if I’m gonna do this. I think it’s the greatest mistake I’ve ever made. You know, there were a lot of stages that I went through. But, like, the girls were wonderful. They were like, it’s gonna be okay. Just wait until you see the finished product. You’re gonna be so happy. And I was like, okay, okay, I can do this. So they encouraged me, you know. And if I had anything that went wrong, I could call them and they’d be like, come in and let us look at it. So, I mean, it’s just, number one, they’re great. I love them. And it’s not very often that you can go to any doctor or any dentist and actually be able to develop that relationship with them. And it’s special when you can do that.
I went through this process of getting implants and I was reluctant, got to be honest. And Dr. Lopez talked me into it basically saying that, you know, a denture would just not satisfy me. He knows me pretty well. And so off we went to get the implants. We pulled like nine teeth at one time and he put six implants in at the same time. One of the things that, my experience anyway, is I get more critiques like from my family about, you know, well, we didn’t feel like…your jaw is protruding a little more than it used to or, you know, that kind of critique. And I liked, you know, giving a mirror and Dr. Lopez explaining the bite and all that. And just, you know, how comfortable I am with what they’ve inserted in my mouth. And I can eat. Hey, that is one of the main things is even with the temporary stuff, but I broke many temporaries. One, I grind my teeth. That’s one thing which Dr. Lopez knows. And the other thing is, you know, I was on travel one time to see my grandson at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. And we stopped by Buc-ee’s and I got a burrito and I bit into that and cracked the whole temporary. And so, yes, eating is awesome. It’s these next to last teeth that I have now. No problems with eating. You know, I can go eat a steak and be happy.
I had one tooth in the front that was always giving me a problem, and they did it with some out on it. And then as I got older, I was getting too many fillings and I went to the dentist to get this poor net pulled. The last time I went to the dentist, I told her… She asked me what did I want, I said, “Take them all out and give me dentures because I can’t do it no more.” And I decided to get dentures.
First I was nervous because it’s, like, when you pull… You pull them all at one time. Really? And I don’t know about that. I didn’t know I was gonna get them all pulled and walked out of here with teeth. I ain’t got… That was strange for me. That was amazing right there. So I thought I would leave, I have no teeth and then come back. But no, I left, I had my teeth. Yeah, it was nice.
You look at some pictures, and I’m coming up, I’m not smiling. I mean, I’m smiling but you can barely see my teeth because I’m not really smiling because I didn’t want to smile at the time. But now, you see a picture, I’m smiling. I had teeth all day long now. I sure will.
They take care of me and I never worry about how I’m going to feel when I go out. I’m always better than I came in. Dr. Lopez is just extremely friendly, explains things very well to me, and without me really knowing what they’re doing, they get it done. And that’s a really good feeling. Well I love the staff here. They seem very caring, they’re very professional, and yet they’ll talk to you and they’ll change the radio station to what you want to hear. And like I said earlier, I think the staff is what, I don’t know if it makes this place, but it’s definitely, he does a really good job hiring people. I really appreciate them and the whole staff here and Dr. Lopez, and they have treated me with true respect. And I’m not their most wealthy customer, but I did what they asked me to do and they far exceeded my expectations and I really appreciate that.
I actually had a sore tooth, a tooth that needed to be taken care of right here.
